When Christopher Columbus came over to the Dominican Republic he brought some Spanish influence to the traditional clothing worn today such as bright colors like yellow, red, orange. Most of the time they wear summer time clothing like t-shirts, sandals, tennis shoes, flip flops, sweaters, light jackets and blouses.
Traditional Clothing
When at a beach or a resort the appropriate way to dress is just bathing suits, shorts, and t-shirts at breakfast and/or lunch. However at dinner it is more formal so people usually wear skirts, long pants, and collared shirts. In Santa Domingo though the clothing is stricter for dinner, woman wear dresses and men wear trousers. After dinner it is acceptable to wear light jackets and/or sweaters. Other then dinner in Santa Domingo woman only wear dresses for festivals, carnivals or for carnivals and festivals. It is popular to wear Diablos Cojuelos to some types of festivals.
